A few months ago, City Council asked City staff to research the possibility of the City of Kamloops developing a proposal for a Municipal run medical clinic, plus other options that could be feasible. The Division was invited to provide insight and information and shared a survey with our members to participate. 32 members filled out the survey and provided excellent information which raised potential challenges and considerations, as well as what could be helpful to healthcare providers in the area specific to supports. City staff were so pleased with the information from our members to help them in their work, so thank you for taking the time to weigh in.

“The City of Kamloops staff would like to thank all members of the Division that took the time to complete our Provider Engagement Survey. Your substantive responses were received, reviewed, and summarized and will be utilized as a part of the municipal medical clinic business case. Your reflections and feedback on the role of municipal government in primary care provision are important and deeply  appreciated. Staff are continuing their learning accordingly and working to find suggestions for Council that benefit both the public, and the health care sector as a whole.” – Carmin Mazzotta, Director, Community and Culture, City of Kamloops.

A Snapshot of the Key Fundings & Recommendations included:

  1. A preferred model cited one that incorporates flexibility, team-based care, and minimized administrative burden.
  2. Providers share that priority actions and supports are those specific to recruitment marketing.
  3. Another insight shared by providers included the focus on autonomy for providers and governance flexibility as key considerations.

“Our team at the Division was appreciative of the thoughtful insight and information provided by our members through the survey to help the City of Kamloops in their research,” shared Katherine Brown, Executive Director of the Division. “This opportunity for our providers to engage and share from their knowledge and expertise will help the City of Kamloops staff, as confirmed by Carmin Mazzotta, learn and work to find solutions that work. We look forward to more opportunities to engage and thank our members for stepping up to provide this exceptional support.”
