Find a Primary Care Provider
We’ve partnered with the provincial Health Connect Registry to help patients get connected with a family doctor or nurse practitioner. If you need a primary care provider, you can join the centralized waitlist on the Health Connect Registry website or call 8-1-1. When a doctor becomes available, they will be put in touch with you.
To register you will need to provide your:
- Personal Health Number (PHN), found on your BC Services Card or BC Driver's Licence
- Home address
- Email address and phone number
Register to get a family doctor or nurse practitioner
When you register, you are added to a list of people in need of a family doctor or nurse practitioner in your community.
To help find you a match, you will have the option to inform HealthLink of any new or recent changes to your health when you register. Find out more about the health questions.
Call 8-1-1 to register for the Health Connect Registry in languages other than English.
Resources for patients
For those with non-emergency health questions and concerns, there may be better options than visiting an ER. Calling your primary care provider or visiting your local pharmacist may resolve your health concern. If you need urgent, same day care, consider an Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC).
Always go to the ER or call 9-1-1 if you have been in a major accident or for potentially life-threatening symptoms.
Urgent and Primary Care Centres (UPCCs) provide better access to same-day, urgent, non-emergency health care, including in the evening and on weekends. They are an alternative to visiting emergency departments for issues that do not need to be seen in a hospital. For example, patients who require medical attention within 12 to 24 hours for something like a sprain, minor cut or burn can visit an Urgent and Primary Care Centre.
Pharmacists can assess and prescribe medications for urinary tract infections (UTIs), allergies, acne, cold sores, pink eye, sprains and strains, fungal infections, headaches, heartburn, hemorrhoids, hives and itching, impetigo, menstrual pain, nicotine dependence, pinworms, shingles, rashes and yeast infections.

What is a Primary Care Network (PCN)?
A Primary Care Network (PCN) is a group of local health care providers — like family doctors, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, physiotherapists, and others — who work together as a team to support your day-to-day health needs. PCNs make it easier for you to get the care you need by connecting you with the right health professionals and services, all in one coordinated system.

What does this mean for me?
- You and your primary care provider remain at the centre of your care team
- Your provider can now connect you with a wider range of health professionals, such as dietitians, counsellors, or physiotherapists, who are all part of your local PCN team
- This means you may have quicker access to more services, better support for managing your health, and more coordinated care—all covered by MSP (no extra cost to you)
- Your care team will work together and share information (with your permission) so you don’t have to repeat your story or manage referrals on your own
Talk to your primary care provider about your health needs—they can connect you with PCN team members or refer you to new services and programs that are available through the network.
If you have questions about what’s available or how to access support, ask your primary care provider or their office staff — they’re there to help guide you.
Your Team May Include
Provide comprehensive, continuous primary care as the main point of contact for patients, managing health across the lifespan and coordinating care within the interdisciplinary team
Support patient care through health assessments, chronic disease management, health education, and care coordination as part of the interdisciplinary team
Address social determinants of health by providing psychosocial assessments, individual and group counselling, care planning, advocacy, and connecting patients to community resources within the PCN
Optimize medication therapy by providing medication reviews, education, and prescribing support to improve patient outcomes and safety within the team-based care model
Support Indigenous patients by facilitating culturally safe care, advocating for patient needs, and connecting individuals and families to appropriate health and community services
Assess and treat physical function and mobility issues, develop rehabilitation plans, and support patients in recovery and chronic disease management as part of the PCN team
Enable patients to participate in daily activities by assessing function, recommending adaptive strategies, and supporting rehabilitation and independence within the community
Provide nutrition assessment, counselling, and education to support prevention and management of chronic diseases and promote overall health within the PCN
