The project seeks to ensure that primary care providers and specialists feel comfortable in early identification, assessment and management of patients presenting with eating disorders. By increasing public awareness of eating disorders and learning from a new provincial eating disorder clinical care pathway, our hope for this project is that we build capacity to manage eating disorders to ensure patients and families feel supported, and capacity is maintained through the local Eating Disorder Clinic in Kamloops.

Key Deliverables:

Enhance the knowledge and skills of primary care providers around prevention, early diagnosis and management of eating disorders, and create more awareness of local, regional and provincial resources. Implementation of educational interventions seeks to increase local capacity to manage and treat ED, improve timeliness, and appropriateness of referrals to specialists.

Enhance awareness and knowledge of healthy eating and eating disorders amongst the general public and important stakeholders to prevent eating disorders, and increase the number of patients presenting earlier for assessment and intervention.

Engage with Indigenous partners to understand culturally sensitive approaches to the management of eating disorders so that the medical community could partner in its the management, and improve patient outcomes.

Support specialists and primary care providers with a focused practice in this area to engage in opportunities to upskill to continue to build local capacity and contribute to retention.

Key Outcomes:

A bouquet of bright calendula in a milk vase stands on the windowsill, bright autumn with a window.
