When Dr. Adeolu Akinboro opened Hope Medical Clinic on Kamloops’ North Shore on December 1, 2025, it marked the beginning of a new family practice focused on access, connection, and long-term patient care.

For Dr. Akinboro, family medicine has always been about relationships.

“I’ve always been drawn to family medicine mainly because of the opportunity to build long-term relationships and care for patients through every stage of their lives,” he shared. “What I value most is combining medical care with connection, continuity, and community.”

This approach is part of what led him to practice in the Thompson Region. Through his training and practice, Dr. Akinboro saw how important accessible primary care is, particularly in growing and underserved communities. The region stood out to him for its welcoming nature, collaborative healthcare environment, and the opportunities to be a part of making a meaningful impact.

Like many areas throughout British Columbia, the Thompson Region continues to experience growing demands for family physicians and longitudinal care. Dr. Akinboro’s decision to open the clinic came from seeing the need in the region for more accessible, patient-centred primary care first-hand.

“I wanted to create a clinic environment where patients felt heard, respected, and supported, and where healthcare providers could work collaboratively to deliver high-quality care,” he explained.

From the start, his vision was to create a welcoming family practice where patients could build lasting relationships with their care team.

“Ultimately, my goal is to help improve access to care while ensuring I maintain the personalized care patients deserve,” he added.

Throughout the process of deciding to practice in the region, the Thompson Region Division of Family Practice (the Division) provided meaningful support. From guidance and access resources to direct connections to the local medical community, the Division helped make the start-up journey feel more welcoming and supportive for Dr. Akinboro.

“Starting and establishing a clinic involves many moving parts, and having guidance, resources, and a network of colleagues has made a significant difference,” he noted. “It’s reassuring to know there is a collaborative organization like the Division that is invested in supporting family physicians and improving healthcare in the region.”

As Hope Medical Clinic establishes itself as an important part of the local healthcare landscape, Dr. Akinboro wants his patients, colleagues, and community members know that he is committed to being an active part of the region.

“Here at the clinic, we strive to create an environment where patients feel comfortable and respected, and where healthcare providers can work together effectively,” he shared. “I also value collaboration and welcome opportunities to connect with other physicians and healthcare professionals across the region.”

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Akinboro enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring the outdoors, hiking, reading, travelling, and playing soccer. He notes that the Thompson Region has offered him many opportunities to enjoy both nature and community.

“I’m grateful for the warm welcome I’ve received in the Thompson Region and excited to continue serving the community,” he said. “Family medicine is deeply meaningful work, and I’m hopeful about the future of collaborative, community-focused healthcare in this region.”

As the demand for primary care continues to increase, the clinic has plans to recruit two additional Family Physicians and one Nurse Practitioner (NP) over the coming year.

“At Hope Medical Clinic, we are committed to growing our team to better serve our community. Expanding our team will allow us to improve access to timely, high-quality care, reduce wait times, and ensure that more individuals and families can receive the comprehensive healthcare they need,” added Dr. Akinboro.

If you’re a family physician or healthcare provider looking for supports, resources, and additional connections within the Thompson Region, we encourage you to reach out to our team at the Division.
