Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) Expression of Interest
Project Leads: Dr. Janet Kusler and Dr. Rob Baker
Funder: Shared Care (3-month EOI | September 2026)
This Shared Care funded exploratory initiative aims to assess the current landscape of MAiD service delivery in the region by conducting a comprehensive needs assessment and environmental scan. The project will examine provider-specific gaps, available supports, and effective practices that can strengthen confidence, competence, and sustainability in MAiD care.
The findings will lead to a set of clear, evidence-informed recommendations that will guide the development of a future funding proposal focused on targeted interventions to improve and stabilize MAiD service delivery across the Thompson Region.
Key Outcomes:
- Identify the needs of primary care providers, MAiD assessors, and MAiD prescribers.
- Understand the challenges these providers face when supporting patients requesting MAiD.
- Determine the specific supports and resources required to strengthen provider comfort and capacity.
- Use these insights to inform targeted strategies that enhance patient care.
- Develop recommendations that help bolster overall system capacity for MAiD service delivery.
