Three complementary roles, one shared vision for a thriving regional healthcare community.

The Thompson Region Division of Family Practice is excited to share some new news! Shelley Sim was elected Mayor of Clearwater and returns as School Board Trustee for the North Thompson Valley, building on her commitment to community leadership alongside her role as Community & Recruitment Lead.

With 17 years of recruitment experience, Sim sees a direct connection between the three roles. Through the Division, she supports physician recruitment, retention, succession planning and locum coverage. As a School Board Trustee, she has championed career pathways, including Career Health curriculum development and vocational opportunities in laboratory services, X-ray and other healthcare professions. As Mayor, she brings a community development perspective, recognizing that housing, services, employment opportunities and quality of life all influence a community’s ability to attract and retain healthcare professionals.

“Healthcare doesn’t happen in isolation. It takes physicians, healthcare professionals across every discipline, education, local government, and communities working together,” Sim says. “My commitment is to help build that bigger picture—where we develop future talent, attract and retain healthcare professionals, and create communities where people want to live and work. When we take a regional approach and consider corridors of care, we recognize that the health of Kamloops directly affects access to care throughout the Thompson region. We are all connected, and by planning and working together, we can create a healthier, more sustainable future for everyone.”

“We are so pleased with this result for Shelley, the community of Clearwater, and the communities in the broader Thompson Region,” says Executive Director Katherine Brown. “We all benefit from Shelley’s passion for recruitment and community building. The Division is proud to have a team of professionals with diverse backgrounds and expertise to better serve our members.”
