Shaping the Future of Primary Care in the Thompson Region
The Thompson Region Division of Family Practice and Primary Care Network (PCN) are supporting a Patient & Partner Advisory Committee (PPAC) to ensure patient and caregiver voices inform the planning and improvement of primary care services throughout our region.
PPAC members use their lived experiences as patients and caregivers to help us better understand what is working well, where barriers exist, and how care can be improved for individuals, families, and communities across the Thompson Region.
What is PPAC?
The Patient & Partner Advisory Committee is a group of patients and caregivers who provide advice and feedback to Division staff and the PCN Steering Committee. The committee’s first priority is supporting the development of a Community Experience Survey, which will gather information about how people experience accessing primary care throughout the region.
PPAC members help:
- Review and shape survey questions
- Advise on outreach and engagement approaches
- Identify opportunities to hear from diverse communities
- Review findings and recommendations
- Share patient and caregiver perspectives on future healthcare planning and improvement initiatives
Two PPAC members will also have the opportunity to sit on the PCN Steering Committee and bring forward perspectives from the committee.
Who are we looking for?
We welcome applications from people across the Thompson Region who:
- Have experience navigating healthcare as a patient, family member, or caregiver
- Are comfortable sharing perspectives and participating in respectful discussion
- Are interested in healthcare improvement, community engagement, or survey development
- Value diverse perspectives and experiences
- Can participate in online meetings and communicate by email
We are committed to building a committee that reflects the diversity of the Thompson Region, including different communities, cultures, ages, experiences, and healthcare journeys.
What is involved?
PPAC members can expect to:
- Serve approximately a one-year term
- Participate in regular virtual meetings (minimum quarterly)
- Review materials and provide feedback between meetings
- Complete onboarding and orientation
- Participate in training opportunities
- Help create a respectful, inclusive, and solution-focused environment
Honoraria and approved expenses are provided
Other Ways to Participate
Not everyone has the time or interest to join a committee, and that’s okay.
There will be other opportunities to contribute, including:
- Participating in the Community Experience Survey
- Joining interviews or focus groups
- Participating in short-term project working groups
- Providing feedback on specific initiatives or recommendations
We want to make it easy for people to contribute in ways that work for them.

Your experience matters.
You do not need healthcare expertise or committee experience to participate. We are looking for people willing to share their experiences, listen to others, and help improve primary care for everyone in the Thompson Region. This committee is built on the belief that better healthcare planning happens when patients and caregivers are part of the conversation.
